Aluminium Trays are Microwave-oven friendly
Aluminium foil trays get the 'thumbs up' for use in microwave ovens.
Conclusive evidence that aluminium foil trays can be used safely
in microwave ovens has been established by a study from the Fraunhofer
Institute in Freising, Germany.
Conducted on behalf of the European
Aluminium Foil Association (EAFA) with the support of the
US Aluminium Foil Container Manufacturers Association (AFCMA),
the study concluded, "Microwave heating of food packaged
in aluminium foil trays or in plastic containers with aluminium
foil or laminated lids is perfectly viable."
The results dispel the myth that aluminium foil containers are
unsafe for use in microwave ovens and prove that consumer fears
about using aluminium foil trays in the microwave are unfounded.
Nicholl Food Packaging Limited is delighted with the findings
of the study and ready and willing to support and promote any
customer initiatives to launch microwave meals in aluminium trays.

details of the study and its findings. For direct contact

for their innovative foil tray developments in 2005.
Starpack Award 2005 - Healthy Cooking Tray
Nicholl Food Packaging was once again rewarded for being leaders
of innovation in the aluminium foil container industry with its
new ridged based smoothwall tray. The Starpack Award is the UKs
most prestigious packaging award and recognises industry achievements
in packaging design, innovation and technology and end-user benefits.
This is
the fourth Starpack award presented to Nicholl for its achievements
in recent years, and is recognition of the outstanding performance
from the Development team and of the company's strategy to
grow through product innovation.
The pack was designed to provide maximum cooking convenience
for the consumer, and provides a sturdy roasting or grilling vessel
that can be used for pre-packaged raw meat, poultry or fish. The
unique ridged based design of the tray lifts products off the
base, providing a healthy cooking option for those consumers wishing
to reduce fat content in the food they eat.
Smoothwall products with this innovative design can be found
in the Products section, under
rectangular smoothwalls. Those products with this feature have
a Line Number suffix 'R'.

European Aluminium Foil Association (EAFA) Recognises Nicholls
Innovations
Nicholl has once again been recognised by EAFA's prestigious
Alufoil Trophy judges in 2006.
Working closely with major retailers Tesco and Sainsburys,
Nicholl designed two new aluminium foil trays to provide ultimate
food packer and end-user convenience.
• D Series Trays
This range of trays was designed to replace top lidded plastic
trays used with cuts of raw meat and poultry, without requiring
the food packers to invest in new and costly heat seal tooling.
The trays also provide huge consumer benefits such as minimising
the handling of raw meat or poultry, and the convenient choice of placing
the full pack under the grill, in the conventional oven, in the
microwave oven or even straight onto the BBQ. Additionally, as a
disposable tray, the consumer does not have the onerous task of
cleaning the tray after use.
• Dimpled Base Tray
A tray with a unique design to hold blood and juices from meat through
surface tension, negating the need for absorbent pads in the base
of the tray. The revolutionary dimpled base not only acts as a liquid
trap, but also allows air to circulate around the base of the product,
which creates an all-over roasting process.
Both the D series trays and dimpled base trays can be found in
the Product section of this
site.
